Friday was take my daughter to the movie day. I picked a 4:00 show so that it would be less busy, figured it wouldn’t be a problem to leave work earlier. Unfortunately our Canada Post pick up driver was late and that meant we were late.
I arrived at 4:15 for a 4:00 show. That means commercials and previews are done, we are now starting the movie. Unfortunately there was some old don’t go to the movies often take forever people in the line. I kept my cool because I had already been tense enough and wanted little girl happy. Next thing you know a second worker shows up followed by a gentleman who got back in the line behind a lady. This lady was clearly in her own little bubble of slowness and totally unaware that this gentleman was late for his movie and had gone out of his way to talk to the manager and get some concession help. Next thing you know he’s yelling that she and them are taking forever and that he’s very late for his movie. Rather than have some understanding, the ridiculously slow lady started to talk back. It ended up with some swearing and yelling, the gentleman left without his concessions. Well this guy was no question an a-hole, people need to be aware of others and try a little harder to be helpful. Clearly the slow motion lady was in no rush at all, it would have gone a long way for her to let him in front of her, especially since he got the extra staff member. It’s not like she made a decision, she was just completely unaware that an angry person in a rush was behind her. I would have liked to help but I was late myself. I did feel bad for the situation and would have been happy to deescalate and give him my spot had I not been late myself. A selfish call that I had the right to make but I would have preferred to be on time and be able to help.
