The first big piece of good environmental news was the federal government and BC committing to 30% land and water protection for the province. This includes working with first Nations and specific funding to protect old growth forests. Big progress, great news for the future of British Columbia.
The second big piece of good environmental news was a big jump in COD stock. One of our biggest environmental failures, fishing cod until it’s near extinction, is finally turning around after decades of efforts.
It took decades to recover from our greed and ignorance to our abilities to completely devastate a species or environment.
Hopefully the Newfoundland cod story will teach us to think more about conservation for many generations.
